Baido completes the whitewash

Here’s how the final rack of day 2 ended, with Carlo Biado clearing the final five balls after a mistake from Mickey Krause.

Mountain to climb

Wednesday’s action could not have got much worse for Team Europe with Asia securing a whitewash in front of their adoring fans in Manila.

With the competition being the best of 21 points – and therefore a race to 11 – Asia only need four more to win the inaugural competition.

That means another whitewash on day three will give the home team the trophy with a full day’s play ahead of them.

Day 2 recap

It was a disastrous day for Team Europe in Manila as they failed to take a single point from four matches.

The first-ever Reyes Cup is now firmly in Asia’s sights after a series of dominating performances.

In the day’s opening team event, Duong Quoc Hoang proved the difference maker as he swept the final rack.

Ko Pin Yi and Carlo Biado both combined to win their singles matches, beating Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Mickey Krause.

While Aloysius Yapp and Hoang held their nerve to beat David Alcaide and Eklent Kaci in the doubles.

Thriller in Manila

Day 3’s action will begin at 12.30pm GMT tomorrow.

It could prove a pivotal day in the tournament, with Europe realistically needing to take 3 or 4 points to get back into things.

Johann Chua and Ko Pin Yi’s match with Jayson Shaw and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz was slated as Game 5 for today.

It will now take place tomorrow.

Fantastic four

After a stunning day featuring four wins for Asia, the equation is very much the same going into Day 3.

4 more points and the Asians will secure the inaugural Reyes Cup.

A huge mountain for Europe to climb.

Results from Day 2

It’s 7-2 Asia after a day dominated by the hosts in Manila.

  • Match 1: Team Europe 3-5 Team Asia
  • Match 2: Ko Pin Yi 5-3 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz
  • Match 3: Duong Quoc Hoang & Aloysius Yapp 5-2 David Alcaide & Eklent Kaci
